Erik Heter specializes in patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical arts. In his practice, Mr. Heter has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a wide variety of technologies. These technologies include analog and digital circuits, VLSI design, communications systems (RF and optical), computer systems, computer architecture and microarchitecture, power distribution systems, peripheral buses, signal integrity techniques, electrical/electronic testing, and various other technologies. Mr. Heter’s practice includes preparation and prosecution of U.S. patent applications and prosecution of applications in many foreign jurisdictions.

Mr. Heter previously was employed as a test engineer at Xetel Corporation. His duties included development and support of in-circuit tests for printed circuit assemblies, as well as functional test support. These printed circuit assemblies were used in systems such as mobile computers, optical Ethernet adapters, cellular modems, and global positioning systems, among others.

Prior to attending college, Mr. Heter served six years in the United States Navy as a sonar technician in the Navy’s submarine service. He served aboard the nuclear-powered fast attack submarine USS Olympia (SSN 717). His duties included at-sea operation of all installed sonar systems, as well as maintenance, support, troubleshooting and repair of these systems. He earned his Submarine Warfare insignia pin (“dolphins”) indicating qualification in submarines, and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class (E-6).
